Celtic are rubbish
Well, if you read the papers, listen to the phone ins or watch the woefully inadequate "football" programmes on the box, you would be forgiven for believing it's true.
I am left to wonder why every journo mentioning Rangers must do so in conjunction with a sly dig at Celtic? How many times have I heard "Look how bad Rangers are, they're 15/17/21 pts behind one of the worst Celtic teams in years". It can get more than a bit irritating, especially when it seems to be an unremitting wave of criticism.
Let's look at a few facts. This "rubbish" team are currently 13 pts ahead of what the same media tells us is the best Hearts side in decades, 19 pts ahead of a Hibs team that is also gaining multiple media plaudits and 21 pts ahead of "them".
In goal we have a Polish Internationalist who is widely regarded as our best keeper since Ronnie Simpson. We have a shaky defence, there is no denying that, but in midfield we have an embarrassment of riches to choose from - Keane, Petrov, Lennon, Maloney, McGeady, Nakamura, Pearson, Thompson. And up front we can choose from a guy who is the second top scorer in SPL history, a talented Internationalist who has scored 6 in his last 7 games and a fine young talent in Craig Beattie.
Doesn't look too bad at all does it? How many fans would swap the above for a John Barnes or a Tommy Burns side languishing in second place? Not me, that's for sure. Worst team to win the league? Utter dross and a meaningless statement. I think these journos & mibbes a few fans need a reality check as wee Fergus would have put it. Due to the folly & greed of SPL executives, we have severely reduced funding available from TV revenues. This has led to all clubs cutting their cloth accordingly. WGS can only dream of spending £6m on a single player as MON did 3 times. The wee man has done a decent job so far in bringing down the average age of the team, shipping out under-perfomers or guys who had seen better days & bringing on youngsters who didnt seem to get a look in under MON. Who can deny that Maloney has been one of our top players this season, while McGeady & Beattie have done far more than simply contribute.
From where I'm sitting, the picture is an awful lot brighter than the media would have us believe, I just hope WGS is allowed to get on with the job he's started.

Dont mistake good domestic form as a guide to the clubs quality, the Orcs dominated scotland for 10 years (in the olden days)without making an impression on europe, this team is not as high performers as o'neils, despite the pretty football.
verdict: can do better
As usual an all-encompassing, tar them all with the same brush type approach which neatly sums up the semi-literate view of so many punters. DON'T slaughter papers as a whole unless you read them all.
The Mail yesterday had pics of Lennoxtown with a triumphal Zuarawski p[age saying how much he loves it at Celtic. The Herald weren't far behind and the Evening Times was a tim-fest. As usual the Record and the Sun are held up as 'the media'. Don't slaughter lazy journalists if you;re an equally lazy reader who only reads what you want to be offended by.
Anonymous number 1 can't spell O'Neill, and I doubt whether he is a Celtic fan. I would agree with blog. No one is pretending we are "European quality", but Strachan has us going in the right direction. It is interesting to think that the Ibrox side currently 21, yes 21 points behind us are in the last 16 of the Champions League. Its a funny old game....
this is anonymous 1 iam a celt,:o i just cant spell and my point is almost exactly the same as yours realshocks
Apologies then.. I just think that we can't tell where we are positioned in European terms until next year. I also think Strachan deserves great credit for getting the best out of the youngsters. There is no question that many in the media would be singing Rangers praises were they in our position: A 2 - 1 victory would be "a mark of a good team, grinding out wins etc" No one is saying the whole media is biased, just 99% of the b******s ;o)
The media does get irritating but WGS and his team have gave them plenty of ammo.
Artmedia, Clyde, Dunfermline, ICT and Motherwell to name a few were absolutely terrible performances and showed the downsizing off the team has reduced the quality and on our day we can be as bad as anyone in Scotland.
WGS is on a hiding to nothing until he is measured in Europe but I fear he will only get one shot at Europe and if it goes pear shaped the fans who are unsure will turn………

I think some of you have missed the blogger's point. Celtic are not the finished article, they are clearly work in progress. But they are certainly not as bad as they have been made out.
Anonymous 2, instead of the insults, why dont you point out some articles with constructive comments about the team?
We may well have given the media some ammunition, but not to the point that every stutter or slightly poor performance should be roundly criticised as a sign of impending crisis as seems to be the case in some quarters. Artmedia? Think back to Anderlecht V 10 men or Shaktar in the Ukraine. We could easily have lost 5 in both those games. Slightly higher calibre, granted, but Artmedia have done alright since they beat us. Clyde? Didn't Martin O'Neil take his side to a first division ICT and lose too? Dunfermline at home? Well we lost a home game in the SPL. Happens every season. And if you mean 4-4 at Fir Park, we still took 1 point more that we did in a certain game there last season, and we didn't blow the league this time.
I don't think anyone is suggesting we're the finished article, or we aren't as good a team as the one that made it to Seville. But we are, in this tims opinion, a far better team than we were last season. Just my opinion.
Why take any notice of the papers and pundits, the majority of them had Rangers winning this league by 20 points before a ball was kicked.
Looks like they know less about football than the rest of us, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, except that they make a living from this stuff.
Bottom feeders of the worst kind, IMO.
we are doing well as always could do better as they say, but lets not run away with the fact we are top of the charts and everything is rosy. we are still not the finished article, before wilson came, agathe should have been given a chance before them other 2 donkeys Telfer,Camara.I go to the games and it can be bloody agonising, and MON is a great manager we cant play pretty football all the time, but to hear and read what some of the fans have said about the football we played under O`neill makes you wonder where they have they been for the last 5 years,we played some great stuff!. Now lets give WGS a chance
Agree I feel most people forget the terrible performances that we had under MON. But we put up with it cause they were few and far between.
The celtic supports reaction to bad performances now is down to the fact the majority do not want WGS.

I don't remember the journos commenting on Rangers' 9 in a row years with the ubiquitous "Rangers are the best of a bad bunch" and "Celtic are a poor team"?? No, no, no it was "imperious this and majestic that and semi-final of Champions League this and if only the Marseille game was 10 minutes longer that - yadda yadda yadda. Bed, now, before I burst. Seems like it's one rule for some and one rule for another.
And another thing - if the Marseille game had been 10 minutes shorter they would have been pumped 0-2!Bonsoir.
